The Black Shuck of North Shields
In North Shields, as in many parts of the country there is a tale of a big black dog. This one in particular is said to roam around the dockland area late at night. The Dockland area of North Shields has changed significantly over the decades but the tale persists.
Origin Story
The Origin story for this particular creature is light on details. It was said that it was originally a young sailor who had spent many years at sea.
When he came home to North Shields, he was unfortunately murdered by his own parents who didn't recognise him.
The belief being that they were poverty stricken and saw the sailors arriving back to port and robbed him for his pay packet.
The horror of the attack created the Black Shuck as his tormented spirit is said to roam the dockside even to this day. His howling making peoples blood run cold, and that if you meet him, he will bring you nothing but bad luck, and death will follow shortly after.
